Desciption and purpose

This committee is composed of standing members who are academic administrators in the schools and units on the campus. The committee meets seven times per year on the first Monday of each month from 1-2 PM.

Four meetings include the full committee of members and ad hoc members from 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm. These four meetings are dedicated to information sharing and reporting by the ad hoc members and discussion of academic issues related to university support services.

Charges

  1. Monitor curriculum changes and enrollment in VCU Medical Center programs as it impact on facilities and resources.
  2. Review and make recommendations regarding proposals to establish or discontinue academic programs.
  3. Develop interdisciplinary health sciences educational programs.
  4. Make budgetary requests to the Vice President for Health Sciences for support of academic programs and facilities.
  5. Review technology request submitted to the Vice Provost for Academic Technology to coordinate and maximize the utilization of technology for teaching and research.
  6. Advise the Associate Vice President for Health Sciences on the management of the Student Academic Support Services, the Health Careers Opportunities Program, and classroom management and scheduling.
  7. Make recommendations regarding proposed changes in academic rules and regulations and their implementation.
  8. Make recommendations regarding student campus life and the learning environment.
  9. Serve as an information distribution source for university support services related to academic affairs.
  10. Consider other academic matters at VCU Medical Center.
  11. Submit an annual report to the Vice President for Health Sciences.
